As I am starting Level 2 of the Altenew Educators
Certification Program, I am excited for the Beautiful details class. This class spent time going over how to
create wonderful details in your images with painting, sketching, doodling,
etc. These are all areas where I would
like to learn more as I have not done much in these areas.
For today’s project, I decided to pull from technics taught
in using vellum for no line coloring.
Although I feel I have a lot to learn in this area, I am pleased with
the end results seeing that it is my first time trying anything like this.
I chose to use the Altenew
Build-A-Garden: Pristine Peonies Stamp Set and picked one of the stamped
outline images. I then put my vellum in
my stamping platform and prepped it by running my Pink and Main Magic
Anti-static brush over it. I then used
my embossing pad to ink up my image and stamped it on the vellum. I took advantage of the stamping platform and
restamped 2 more times to make sure everything was covered. Then I used a clear embossing powder and
embossed the image onto the vellum, being careful to keep the heat moving and
not warp the vellum.
You really can’t see the image well on this, but it will be
used as my outline for coloring. The
embossing will actually be on the back, so will never be seen. I put my vellum on some black cardstock while
coloring, so that I could easily see the image.
I used my Copic alcohol markers first. I laid down a light layer and then added dark
and midtone layers. With the midtone
layer, I tried to make my brush strokes long so they would cover the most of the
petal and all go in the same direction on a petal.
Then I chose some colored pencils. At first, I started outlining my flower
petals with a darker colored pencil. I
thought I would like that as I just can’t seem to get away from having lines on
my image. However, after looking at
this, I took my erasure and got rid of those lines. The picture shows half of my image erased and
half not.
I used the colored pencils to add some of the darker details
on the petals and to fill in details on the leaves.
Next came the decision on how to put this on my card. I decided to fussy cut the image and then
placed it on a white card panel cut to 3 ¾ x 5”. I cut off any parts that were overhanging
this. You would not have to do this
step, but that was my preference for this card.
I used my tape runner to add small sections of tape under the darker
areas of coloring so it would not show through the vellum.
I then put this panel on a plum colored panel cut to 4 1/8 x
5 3/8”. I used the “I hope you have a
great day!” sentiment from the stamp set and stamped it in black ink. I put my sentiment on foam and put it in the
bottom right. I then added 5 jewels from
my stash, using two larger/darker jewels and three smaller/lighter jewels.
Thank you for joining me today in trying something totally new for me. I hope you enjoyed and keep on crafting.
